Can you get your pet business in the press for free?

Yes you can!

If you’re thinking you’d like to see your pet business in your favourite magazine or featured in your local newspaper, or even a national one, this is something you can do for free.

It might be that you’re hoping to be interviewed on the radio or TV, and again, this is something you can do on your own.

You don’t need to hire a PR firm or take out ads, and in this podcast episode I’m going to explain what your options are.

And I’ll also be sharing how I have a free training you can take part in where you learn the simple steps to follow to secure press coverage for your pet business.

Listen in on the player link below or carry on reading for the key points covered.

Why would you want to get in the press?

There are so many ways to put ourselves out there and reach people who might be interested in buying our product or service.

Here are some reasons why being in the press can be helpful.

  1. You get thousands or even millions of eyes and ears on what you do in one go.
  2. There isn’t an algorithm to contend with, so you know you’ll be seen or heard.
  3. Being in the press elevates you and helps you stand out in a crowded market.
  4. It’s a way of showing your expertise, either as a product maker or service provider.

So what are your options if you want to be in the press?

You’ve decided being in the press is valuable, so what are your options?

There are a range of things you can do depending on your budget.

  1. Free – you can find loads of articles online on how to get in the press. I have a range of free resources here. Download my Five steps to get in the press guide.
  2. Free with personalised support. Come and do my free five day Get Your Pet Business in the Press – the next one is June 20th. You’ll get all you need to send off your pitch in just five days plus advice that’s tailored for you!
  3. Hire a PR company to do it for you. This can cost from £300 to £6000 a month. They will come up with the stories and pitch to the press on your behalf.
  4. Online course – I offer an online Get Your Pet Business in the Press 12 week programme where you learn all you need to pitch to the media with confidence. The next intake will be July 2022.

How to get support if you want to learn how to get in the press

It can be hard trying to figure out ways to approach the media on your own.

Your head might be spinning from all the conflicting advice out there.

It can fall off the bottom of your to-do list and when you come across a bump in the road, you might feel like giving up.

That’s book a call as you’re being supported, you’re learning the steps in a short period of time, and you’re getting advice that has been proven to work hundreds of times.

Plus you’re going through the experience with other people who are in the same position as you, so you have that shared goal, that camaraderie.

How does the Get Your Pet Business in the Press challenge work?

You sign up on the registration page here: book a call

You’ll be sent an e mail inviting you to the pop up Facebook group which opens on Friday 17th June, where you’ll hang out with other awesome pet businesses.

Every weekday from Monday – Friday June 20th – 24th you’ll be sent a short video (no more than four mins) explaining the task.

The task itself will take about 10 minute maximum. You’ll get feedback from me on how you’ve done, and each night at 6pm there’s a live where you can ask questions.

By the end of the week you’ll have a story idea, media outlets to approach and you may have already sent off your idea and been in the press, or on the TV or radio.

What kind of results can you expect from taking part in the Get Your Pet Business in the Press challenge?

Hundreds of people have had press coverage from taking part and here are some examples.

Dog trainer Kirsty Walker was interviewed on Radio 4.

Kerry Whitney from Franky’s Bowtique appeared in The Sun.

Dog trainer Rachael Claire featured in Bloomberg and landed a collaboration with Mud Daddy, putting her in front of 65,000 people.

Karen Rhodes from Luxury Dog Hampers appeared in the East Anglian Daily Times, Dogs Monthly and GQ.

Eve Jones, creator of the Bonus Dog Treat dispenser featured in the Newcastle Chronicle and BBC Radio Newcastle.

Meera Jethwa, puppy trainer at Meera Puppins, appeared in Blog Preston and the Lancashire Evening Post.

Leigh Aldus, a dog walker, appeared in her local paper and has a regular radio gig.

Why I help people for free

I believe that landing press coverage shouldn’t only be for big brands with huge budgets and TV dog trainers like Graeme Hall.

We need to have more voices out there when it comes to advice on caring for our beloved animals.

Consumers want to buy from businesses with a heart and a story behind them, not big corporates, so it’s vital small businesses can be seen and heard.

I’ve picked up the pieces when people have spent thousands on PR and been disappointed.

And I love hearing peoples’ stories too having spent over two decades in journalism, and helping them put their businesses out there in a way that feels right for them.

Finally, my free challenge lets people see what it’s like to work with me, and some people who take part sign up for my programmes.

That pays for the free training I put on, the podcast, this blog and means I can support more business owners.
